Power failure is not only common but also is sudden. You never know when a natural calamity may hit any area and lead to serious power failure or even a small event like a car crashing into an electric pole may disrupt the power supply. To ensure that you do not lose any data or important information from your electrical device.

An uninterrupted power supply, also known as flywheel backup or cyclic battery backup is an electrical device that provides emergency power to a load when the main power supply fails. The runtime of UPS is relatively lower than the actual input supply but is enough to start standby mode of a system or properly shut down the equipment safely without any loss of data. An uninterrupted power supply is used for protecting hardware like computers, data centers, and other telecommunication equipment. UPS can be used where the probability of sudden power failure causing data loss, injuries and business disruption exists.

There are some discrepancies in power that the UPS are capable of modifying or amending. These include a normal power failure, voltage sag, over voltage, under voltage, voltage spike, voltage sag, frequency variation, harmonic distortion, line noise and switching transient. According to these various problems, uninterrupted power supplies are grouped into different categories so that consumers can buy them as per their requirement.

Though useful for many electrical devices, Uninterruptible power supplies, are mainly used for computers, which in today’s world are the lifeblood of our society because they are required practically everywhere starting from home, hospitals, banks, schools, universities, airports and every business organization that exists on earth.

However, this equipment is vulnerable if they do not have a backup source of energy to keep them running in case of a power cut. Therefore you must have a UPS, to support your precious computer.

For home computer users, you will want either an Eaton uninterruptible power supply protection device. These will basically ensure that, should something go wrong with your external power, you have, at least, several minutes to save what you were doing and shut your computer down safely, which is quite a bit nicer than losing power suddenly and worrying about whether or not your computer’s hardware has been permanently destroyed by a power surge.

This kind of a UPS absorbs energy from the source, changes it to AC power and stocks it for use when there is a power failure. Although uninterrupted power supplies are much like a generator, they have their differences and must not be mistaken for a standby generator. The major difference between the two is that while standby generators cannot provide instant protection from a power cut, UPS automatically switch over to the backup source for immediate relief from a utility failure. However, a UPS can provide protection for a limited amount of time say about 5 – 15 minutes.

The backup energy in the UPS gives you enough time to save your important documents or any other data that you may have been working on. Generators would have been of no use in such a situation because they take several minutes to start, by which time your essential data would be lost forever. If you wish to continue having a UPS, you can use a backup generator to provide this energy source to the UPS. They can work hand in hand to give you an uninterrupted power supply until the original utility power is restored.
